Healthcare Operator adopts Universe-Teams

CHALLENGE: A major healthcare operator with over 150 employees, based in the UK, wished to migrate away from its legacy Avaya PABX to a cloud-based telephony system. At the same time, conscious of the impact of the COVID Pandemic, they required a truly unified communications system that could be operated both at the office and home as well as integrated with Microsoft Teams. The organization needed to ensure workers could make telephone calls via their existing Teams client. They also wished to facilitate video conferencing via Teams within office-based meeting rooms, or as individuals from their office desks or at home.

SOLUTION: Firstcom Europe, working with our reseller Comtec, put together a solution based on the Universe platform. This was integrated with Teams and a range of Poly VVX handsets were provided for those who required business phones as well as softphone clients.

Working with Firstcom Europe’s new strategic partner Poly, we also included within the solution a range of X30, X50 and G70 video conferencing suites for the 11 different sized meeting rooms with the UK Head Office.

OUTCOME: In June, Comtec received and placed an order for the first 143 Universe users. The customer now has the best of both worlds, Teams collaboration and Universe advanced calling capabilities.
