Hike To The Pike latest… It was a hard day’s night but more than worth the slog

24 hours, almost a million steps, 150 summits achieved, 450 miles covered and the equivalent of 3 ascents of Everest. Just another day for Firstcom Europe!

We knew it wouldn’t be easy. We knew there’d be blisters, tears and the odd eerie moment. We knew there’d be times when muscles failed and legs wobbled (as well as the odd bottom lip). But we knew it would be worth it!

And oh, was it worth it, in so many ways!

Having completed our most recent 24hr challenge in aid of Bolton Hospice, which involved a team of intrepid walkers completing as many summits of Rivington Pike, Bolton, in 24 hours, it’s safe to say we’ve got the bug. Over the course of 24 hours some 50 members of the Firstcom Europe team, along with well wishers and the occasional last minute volunteers, completed as many ‘hikes to the pike’ as possible. Thanks to the generous donations received from sponsors the total raised for Bolton Hospice currently stands at just under £2400. (there’s still time to donate here!) against a target of £1500 and we are both proud and delighted to help this amazing charity who do such invaluable work in the local community

A team effort

Whilst everyone contributed to the overall achievement, special thanks should go to our well being champion Craig Connor as well as Gary Thornburn and Mathew Wilde for their organisation and general support to bring this event to life. And for their reassuring presence during the ‘witching hours’ when feet were sore, trails tricky and spirits flagging.

The accomplishments were mind boggling. 150 summits achieved across the whole team with a combined 100,000 ft of climb. Special mentions to Craig and CEO Christian who managed 13 ascents across 24 hours, closely followed by UK MD Ewan Kearney who managed a paltry 12 ascents in 24 hours! An amazing effort by all though and a genuine team effort to achieve much needed funding for a brilliant cause.

And views and experiences to remember for a lifetime too.

Suggestions are now welcome for the next 24 hour challenge!
