Firstcom Europe are delighted to announce Stephen Beynon’s appointment as their new Non-Executive Chair.
Beynon brings over 30 years’ experience leading telecoms and energy businesses, including running the B2B divisions of Virgin Media in the UK and Optus in Australia. Most recently he was co-President of Eutelsat’s Connectivity Business and CEO of their low earth orbit satellite subsidiary OneWeb.
He joins Firstcom Europe to support CEO, Christian Bleakley, to drive the continued development and growth of the business. In his role, Beynon will provide guidance on key initiatives, contribute to shaping long-term strategy, and work collaboratively with the Board to strengthen governance and deliver sustainable success.
Beynon says, “I’m really excited to be joining the Firstcom Europe team. Having known Christian and Roy for some time and closely followed the company’s impressive journey, I’m eager to contribute my experience in B2B telecoms to help accelerate growth and support the next phase of Firstcom’s development.”
CEO, Bleakley, says, “Stephen’s appointment is a fantastic step forward for Firstcom Europe. His proven track record in scaling telecoms businesses and leading high-performing teams speaks for itself; I’m thrilled to have him on board. Stephen’s business acumen and fresh perspective will play a key role as we accelerate our growth plans across the UK and Germany. I’m very much looking forward to working closely with him as we take Firstcom into its next exciting chapter.”
Roy Merritt, Non-Executive Director says, “I am delighted to welcome Stephen as Non-Executive Chairman. He has a highly relevant telecoms background and experience of scaling technology‑led businesses. His strategic insight and collaborative approach will be of great benefit in supporting Christian & the team and will help us deliver for our customers and partners.”
This appointment marks an exciting chapter of significant growth for the Firstcom Europe Group. In 2026, the business will launch innovative new products, expand its customer base, and accelerate market reach. Following the successful sale of its Scandinavian operations to Swedish provider Telavox, the Group will now concentrate its efforts on building momentum in its core UK and German markets.
