Excitement is building at the Bolton and Ipswich offices of Firstcom Europe in the run up to The Big Goal regional tournaments and Team Manager, Jack Barrow, reports a notable rise in staff fitness and well-being as a direct result of the company’s participation in the competition.
“Training is well underway and the focus has been on building fitness, teamwork and momentum rather than just match play. Our staff have been making good use of our on-site office gym with circuit training sessions, and we’re currently trying to arrange a friendly match with Gamma,” said Jack.
“Alongside this, a few of the team have also been playing padel, which has been a great way to stay active while keeping things fun and social. The emphasis is very much on participation, wellbeing and enjoying the journey to the regionals.”
Jack says response to Firstcom’s support of The Big Goal across its five offices has been “really positive”.
“There’s genuine excitement about being involved in such a high-profile, professionally run tournament, and it’s been great to see colleagues supporting one another,” he said.
“We’ve been sharing updates internally and encouraging participation not just in football training, but also in other activities that promote fitness, wellbeing and team bonding. It’s very much about bringing people together, whatever their sporting background.”
As for team recruitment, Firstcom has taken a slightly different approach, focused on inclusivity, as Jack explained: “While some organisations are running very formal trials, our priority is inclusivity and making sure everyone involved enjoys the experience. I’m currently captaining and managing the team, and as interest continues to grow, we’re also working towards entering a Southern team. As our selection expands, we’ll continue to balance competitiveness with creating a positive, welcoming environment for all involved.”
Meanwhile, Marketing Manager Lana Wynn Davies is ramping up her communications about The Big Goal internally and aims to widen the message in the months ahead, especially as the ultimate winner will go on to represent England in the FIFCO World Corporate Champions Cup in October. which will be broadcast to 64 countries across the world.
“While the focus so far has been internal engagement, there’s definitely an opportunity to highlight The Big Goal more broadly through customer communications and future updates. We recognise the importance of clearly communicating the wider impact of The Big Goal and its ESG and CSR focus. This is an area we’re looking to strengthen, ensuring both our customers and wider stakeholders fully understand the positive social impact behind our involvement.
“The corporate World Cup opportunity highlights just how professional and far-reaching The Big Goal has become. Beyond the competitive aspect, it’s fantastic PR for the businesses involved and a great platform to showcase organisations that are committed to both teamwork and social responsibility,” concluded Lana.
